back up your Internet connection with a WiFi link
back up your Internet connection with a WiFi link
If you have an extra wired router and wireless Ethernet
bridge and some open access point nearby you can back up your Internet
connection and load balance across the links.
First configure a wireless bridge like the 3054cb3
to connect to the open access point. Give the router a ip address
like 10.0.0.1 this will be your second gateway. Next connect the bridge a wired
router like the linksys befsr41 to the WAN port with a cross over cable.
lets assume that your main router has a address of
10.0.0.1 and is connected to your cable or DSL modem via the wan port.
Go the the windows network applet tcp/ip properties

click advanced

add 10.0.0.2 as a second default gateway

go to the DNS tab and add the second gateway
Windows XP will load determine the fastest link and send
you traffic over it. If you main like goes down you traffic will be send
to the backup WiFi link automatically.
